Sitting On The Fence Hurts Your Heart

I took this photo while on a walk with my good friend Dava Money when she picked me up in Denver last week. No sitting on the fence about our friendship, Dava found a way to spend time with me when I told her I had a 4-hour layover. SIMG_0094he put other things aside and made me a priorty. I consider that kind of friendship part of my overall true wealth and prosperity, and would do the same for her.

We prioritize what we value.  What we make a priority grows. It requires our intention, attention and relaxation the experience.  It requires a decision, which comes from the Latin dēcīdere which means, literally, to cut off. When we make a decision, we cut off other possible options that would require our attention.  There are no 2 ways about it.

We make decisions all day long, but often ignore the burning desires in our hearts, making no decisions about these precious aspects of who we are.  We put off making those important things a priority, and instead react to all the countless stimuli that bombard us each day. Something must be really important to us to make it a priority.

What I often see, when it comes to women making clear decisions to move ahead with their gifts, and truly legitimize and value who they are and what they do is waffling…..waiting…..wondering…… losing the energy after while, and never deciding to claim their true worth.  Sometimes it is because what they say they want is not the desire of their true heart, and has become confused with the desires and needs of so many others.  Sometimes it is the fear of what might be lost if the clear decision is made.

I know the pain of hiding out, which is why I easily see it in others. It hurts your heart, because your heart wants to go for the real. There is a truly wonderful woman I’ve known for a long time, who touched me the other day. She is wise, deeply spiritual, a wealth of knowledge about health and a healer herself, as well as a shaman and medicine woman with essential oils. She has raised a family and supported a husband for years, and done a stellar job she can be proud about.

While speaking with her the other day, she said “When I gain enough confidence, I’ll ask for help to get a business really going.” We smiled at each other, and she knew what I would say, and could actually say it herself…….that she would never magically acquire the confidence until she actually made the decision to go for it. It was the “some day when…” syndrome at play.

She would have to give some things up. What are those things for you? What is it you would have to say NO to in order to say YES to the dream you’ve been carrying inside? Things like feeling totally comfortable, playing it safe, playing dumb, blaming family members, doing more research, taking more classes…….the list goes on and on.

I am not talking about the times when it is not right to begin something new, and there are other more pressing demands that would prevent you from stepping out.  You know the difference deep inside.  You can feel the restlessness.

How do you know when you are really ready to take the next big step?

Let’s chunk it down to one small step. To do that, imagine what you would be like if you could greet each moment with the power and grace of your full presence.

Imagine what your life would be like if you lived full out, holding nothing back.

Imagine what it would be like if you could not fail? What would you be doing? What would you be willing to give up?

Could you imagine opening to grace? Grace is having a strong desire and recognizing the response to your prayer when it arrives.

Grace is not just waiting for something to happen. Grace happens because you do whatever it takes to open to it.

Grace is the answer to a prayer from the purity of your true heart.

Take this one small step. Get clear about what is in your true heart. It’s the easiest thing in the world to do, and often the most elusive.
